5/27 - Season comes to an end, The Leopards lose 2 games to the Celina Lady Cats. It was a great season as the Lady Leopards make their first appearance in the Regional Finals and finish as one of the top 8 teams in the state. Great Job Ladies!
5/21 - WOW!!! What a Saturday. Unfortunately, the Leopards came out flat in the first game of the day and lost 8-3 against Paris North Lamar and the bats stayed cold until the 6th inning of the 3rd game. Trailing 3-0 with only 6 outs to catch up, the Lady Leopards decided to use only 3 of those outs to score 8 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to take an 8-3 lead into the top of the 7th inning. Brittany Lewis closed the game out by striking the last two batters out.
5/17: As the Lovejoy Leopards traveled to Paris.... Texas, that is to face the defending state champion Paris North Lamar for game 1 of the Regional Semifinals, the Paris North Lamar of over 300 showed up to watch the game. Did this phase the Leopards - No. The Leopards started strong in the 1st inning by scoring 1-run. The score remained 1-0 until the top of the 6th inning when the Lady Leopards loaded the bases with Hervey getting a walk and Frye and Curry getting base hits. Brooke Puckett then hit a single to score Hervey. However, the Lady Leopards were not through in the inning. With one swing of the bat, Brittany Lewis made the score 6-0 with a grand slam!. The Lady Leopards had 12 hits for the game. The final score was 6-2. Great job girls!
5/13: Friday night, the 13th, the Lovejoy Leopard bats were the scary part of the evening as the Lovejoys had 9 with two homeruns - Three-run HR by Sammi Curry and a solo HR by Amanda Gray. Brittany Lewis struck out 4 and only gave up 5 hits and finished the game by striking out the last player. The Lovejoy Leopards beat Pilot Point 6-3 to be the Regional Quarterfinal Champions!!! Great job girls.
5/11: On Tuesday night,Lovejoy faced Pilot Point in Game 1 of the Regional Quarterfinals. The Pilot Point pitcher struck out 10 Lovejoy batters and gave up just 4 hits; however one of those hits was by Brooke Puckett who took the pitch over the centerfield fence. Brittany Lewis just gave up 1 hit in the 7th inning as the Lady Leopards won the 1st game 1-0.
5/7 - Traveling just up the road to McKinney High School, the Lovejoy Lady Leopards faced the Aubrey Chaps For the initial three innings of the game, the Lady Leopards bats had not heated up, but when the bats did, the Lady Leopards took control of the game and won the game 8-1 to claim the area championship. Congratulations to the girls!!!!
4/19 - In an exciting game for playoff seeding, the Lady Leopards beat Princeton 8-5 to clinch the #1 seed from district 11-3A. More details to come!.
4/15: Needing a win to three peat as Co-District Champions, the Lady Leopards traveled to Nevada Community. The Community Braves took an early 1-0 lead, but that lead would soon vanish and the Lady Leopards began the scoring. In the fifth inning of the game, the Lady Leopards scored 11 runs and won the game 13-1 in 5 innings. The night was a celebration as the Leopards had successfully won district for the 3rd year. Congratulations Lady Leopards!!! Now, the post season begins - IT’S SHOWTIME!!!!
4/12: The night was filled with emotions as the senior class was honored prior to the game. The game was also a game of highs and lows as the Leopards took an early lead 2-0, but Princeton stormed back in the 6th inning and took the lead for good. The final score was 2-5.
4/8: As Lovejoy dismissed school early today, the Lady Leopards started slow as they only scored 2 runs after 2 innings. Then the bats got hot as the Lady Leopards scored 9 runs in the next three innings to beat Frisco Lonestar 11-1 in 5 innings. Ginger Hervey lead the way with a triple and Brittany, Autumn, and Amanda each had doubles.
4/5: In a pitcher’s duel with both pitchers striking out 10 batters, Brittany Lewis hit a double in the 6th inning and then advanced on two pass balls to score the only run of the game.
4/1: The second time playing district foes is much tougher than the first round. The Prosper Eagles showed that as after three innings, the scored was tied 3-3. However, beginning the 4th inning, the Leopards took the lead 4-3, then in the fifth scored 4 runs to put the game out of reach. In the end, the Lady Leopards won 10-3 to continue to stay undefeated in district. The offense was lead with 4 batters ( Brittany Lewis, Annie Frye, Melissa Schreck, and Heidi Herring) hitting over 500 for the game. The Lady Leopards remain undefeated in district. Next up: Farmersville Farmers.
3/29: On a night that was wet and cold, the Lady Leopards faced Nevada Community. Although it was cold, the Lady Leopards bats were not as the Leopards scored 9 runs in the first two innings lead by Brooke Puckett’s two run homerun, triples by Annie Frye, Amanda Gray, Heidi Herring, and a double by Ginger Hervey. The final score was 12-2 in 5 innings. The Lady Leopards complete the first round of district play 5-0.
3/25: As in past years, the atmosphere was exciting and anticipating a classic battle between Lovejoy and Princeton. Both teams did not disappoint. The Lady Leopards scored in the 2nd inning with a sacrifice fly by Amanda Gray. The Leopards added a 2nd run in the 5th inning. Princeton did not back down. Princeton scored 2 in the 5th inning and 2 more in the 6th inning. Down 4-2, the Lady Leopards dug deep with a lead off hit by Ginger Hervey and a walk by Annie Frye. With one out, Brook Puckett hit a triple to right field to score 2 runs. With the score tied and 2 outs, Jessica Green hit Brooke Puckett in for the winning run. Brittany Lewis pitched a great game striking out the last batter for Princeton to end the game. . The Leopards win 5-4.
3/22: The Lady Leopards traveled to Frisco Lonestar thiis evening. Offense was plenty as the Leopards were lead by a Grand Slam by Amanda Gray and a three-run home run by Brittany Lewus. The Lady Leopards overpowered the Lonestar Rangers and won in 5 innings - 22-0.
3/18: Wow. What an exciting game tonight. The Lady Leopards faced a strong pitching performance by the Farmersville pitcher. The Leopards were held scoreless until the 6th inning. The Lady leopards manufactured two runs in the top of the 6th inning and Brittany Lewis another strong game. The Lady Leopards won 2-1 and improved to 2-0 in conference.
3/15: Tonight was opening night for District 11-3A and the Lady Leopards faced the #9 Prosper Eagles. Brittany Lewis took the mound and shut the Lady Eagles out. The offense was ready to go after taking a weekend off for the varsity retreat. The Lady Leopards started strong in the first inning by taking a 2-0 lead, and the Leopards did not stop. The Lady Leopards had 13 hits and run-ruled the Eagles 10-0 in 5 innings.
3/10: The Argyle Lady Eagles came to town on Thursday and the Lady Leopards were ready and waiting. After a couple days of rest from playing three tough tournaments, the Lady Leopards struck hard and fast. Fast is helped with a Grand Slam by Brittany Lewis. At the end of the 2nd inning, the score was 8-0. The Lady Leopards accounted for 18 hits on the evening. Brittany Lewis pitched a 1 hitter and shut the Argyle Lady Eagles out. The final score was 13-0. The Lady Leopards finished the beginning of the season at 14-5. Now, it is the second season - DISTRICT. The Prosper Eagles come to Lovejoy.
3/5: The Lady Leopards faced the wind and pitching that kept the Leopards from putting big rallies together today. The highlights were Amanda Gray hit her 2nd homerun of the year, and both Brooke Puckett and Brittany Lewis hit homeruns. Unfortunately, the Leopards fell to both 4A Sherman and 5A Mesquite Horn. It was still a great weekend as the Lady Leopards went 4-2 in the Mesquite tournament. The Lady Leopards took 3rd place in Wylie tournament!!!!
3/4: The Lady Leopards started the day against the Birdville pitcher (who has committed to Texas Tech and throws in the mid-60s). The Lady Leopards started strong and in the first inning took a 2-0 with Melissa Schreck and Annie Frye crossing home plate. Brittany Lewis commanded the pitchers mound and kept the Birdville hitters off-balance. The Lady Leopards manufactured 6 runs and won 6-3 against their 5A opponent. The second game was against Mesquite Poteet. The Lady Leopards hit the ball hard throughout whole game and for the first 6 innings could not gets runs over the plate (leaving bases loaded two straight innings). Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the 7th inning, Amanda Gray hit the first Leopard Softball homerun over the left field fence. The Lady Leopards tied the score by Brittany Lewis’s hit to drive in Brooke Puckett. Of course, the Lady Leopards enjoy playing 8 innings. In the bottom of the 8th with two on base, Melissa Screck drove in the game winning run and the Leopards won 4-2. It was an exciting day of softball.
3/3: The always tough Wylie tournament started today and as usual, the first game was a very competitive game. Tthe Leopards faced 4A Ennis in a pitcher’s dual. The game went into 8 innings with Ginger Hervey knocking in the winning run and the Lady Leopards won 1 - 0. In the second game of the day against #11 state ranked 4A Rockwall, the Lady Leopards fell behind 4-0, but never gave up. Lead by Heidi Herring and Brooke Puckett with doubles, the Lady Leopards tied the score. What is becoming a tradition, the Lady Leopards went to 8 innings and in the bottom of the 8th, Annie Frye hit the game winning hit to right field to score Heidi Herring. Leopards win 5-4.
2/26: In the first game of the day against 4A McKnney North, the Lady Leopards took care of business and won 5-1. Brittany Lewis kept the batters off balance, great defense was played by the Leopards to keep the McKinney North team from getting any momentum. The Lady Leopards had key hitting, lead by Brook Puckett with a triple and Heidi Herring, who went 2 for 2. For the final game of the tournament, defense and hitting were the keys to a 10-2 over 5A Perennial Power Garland. The Lady Leopards scattered 18 hits over 5 innings against the three Garland pitchers.
2/25: For the 3rd game of the Allen Tournament, the Lady Leopards faced the #6 1A Sam Rayburn Ivanhoe. Sam Rayburn came to play and challenged the Lady Leopards. It was a very good game; however, in the end, the Lady Leopards prevailed 4-2 as time expired with the Lady Leopards up to bat with 2 runners in scoring position.
2/24: After rain delays at the Allen Tournament, the Lovejoy Leopards and McKinney played again (just 2 days after playing). Brooke Puckett started her first HS pitching debut against the McKinney Lions. The Lady Leopards prevailed with a 8-4 win. The next game was against the Celina Bobcats. The Lady Leopards got off to a slow start, falling behind 5-1; however, the team rallied to make the score 5-4 in the bottom of the 5th. Unfortunately, these games are timed games and time ran out on the Lady Leopards. Future games between Celina and Lovejoy will mean much more than this first meeting. It was an exciting game. The Lady Leopards have 3 more games this weekend. Good Luck girls.
2/22: The Lovejoy Leopards faced 4A McKinney on Tuesday with the mist coming down and started strong by taking a 3-0 lead early in the game. Brittany Lewis struck out 8 batters, bringing her total strikeout for the year to 51. The Lady Leopards were lead by Amanda Gray (2 for 2, walk, and 3 RBIs). The defense was strong again.
2/19: Over the weekend, the Lady Leopards traveled to play in the Bryan/College Station to play in one of the largest tournaments in the state. .In the initial game, they play CC Moody (#4 4A) and lost in 8 innings 3-2. The Lady Leopards then won 3 straight games against Leander Rouse(4A), Rudder High School(4A), and LaPorte(5A). In the final game that went 9 innings, the Lady Leopards lost to #2 ranked 4A school Elgin 4-3. The Lady Leopards are currently 4-2 with the losses coming to very good teams In both of the losses, the Lady Leopards were down and fought back to force extra innings. Brittany Lewis added to her strikeout count by striking out 29 batters (43 this year already) and only surrendered 4 earned runs for the weekend. It was a team effort throughout the weekend for hitting lead by Melissa Schreck and Sammi Curry.
2/15: The Lady Leopards faced 4A Frisco Centennial to begin the season and started the season in strong form. Brittany Lewis took the mound and kept the Lady Titans off-balance and struck out 14 batters. In support of the strong pitching, the Lady Leopard’s bats were hot led by Annie Frye (4 for 4) and Sammi Curry (2 for 3) - one of those hits being a triple. Jessi Green and Amanda Gray had doubles off the outfield wall. The Lady Leopards had a total of 11 hits on the night. The final score was 7-1. Great start to the 2011 Season. Now, it is off to College Station for the weekend.
2/12: In the traditional model for getting ready for the season, the Lovejoy Lady Leopards traveled to Forney on Thursday (2/10) to scrimmage the North Forney softball team (ranked pre-season #8) and then for the weekend played North Forney again as well as perennial power Van and the defending state champions Paris North Lamar. It was a solid weekend to be challenged by strong teams, all lead by strong pitching. Now, the season begins....
