Head Coach
Amanda Douglas

Education: Coach Douglas graduated from Texas Tech University in 2003, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She majored in math and minored in secondary education.


Coaching History:

Coach Douglas began coaching at Lovejoy at the inception of the school and softball program  The first year, the team was only a JV team and had a .500 record  In its first varsity season, she helped lead the team to a 5th place finish in District 9-AAA.  In 2009, she helped lead the team to a 13-AAA district championship, and area round appearance.  In 2010, she helped lead the team to its first back-to-back 13-AAA district championship, bi-district championship, area championship, region II quarter-final championship, and region II semi-final appearance.  For most of the 2010 season, the Lady Leopards were ranked as #1 in TGCA polls and remained in the top 10 until being beaten in the Regional Semi-Final series against Celina.

Before coming to Lovejoy, Coach Douglas coached for 2 years at Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas. At Berkner, she was the varsity assistant coach with experience coaching third base, and calling pitches during the games. She helped lead the lady Rams to back to back district 10-5A championships and two second round play-off appearances.


Softball History: Coach Douglas is a graduate of Berkner High School, and was a part of the State Final Four team in 1997. She earned many awards while playing three years of varsity softball at Berkner. She was chosen for All-State 2nd team her sophomore year and All-State First Team her junior and senior years. She was All-District Best Pitcher her sophomore and senior year. She was All-District Best Hitter her junior year. She was All-Area First Team Outfielder her junior and senior years. She was All-City Best Hitter her sophomore and junior years, and All-City MVP her senior year. She was chosen as candidates for McDonald’s Scholar Athlete, Wendy’s High School Heisman, and GTE Student of the Game. Coach Douglas continues to hold the homerun record for her three years of Berkner softball. Along with softball, Coach Douglas was also an All-American Cheerleader for four years. Coach Douglas played select softball as a member of the Texas Mizuno Sox which qualified and attended ASA Nationals four years, AFA Nationals one year, and participated in the ASA Hall of Fame Tournament. Coach Douglas played collegiate softball on scholarship at Texas Tech University from 1999-2003. She holds the record at Texas Tech for most RBIs in a single game with eight runs batted in against New Mexico State in 2003. In 2002, Coach Douglas was nominated for the Jeannine McHaney Female Athlete Scholarship award at Texas Tech.
 

Personal: Coach Douglas is the daughter of Eddie and Marsha Douglas, and sister to Meredith Douglas.

Assistant Coach
Cheryl Sharkey

 


Education:
Coach Sharkey went to high school at Caddo Mills! After graduation she went to Cisco Jr. College and then Texas A&M-Commerce, where she graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in 2005. In high school she played basketball, power-lifting, softball, and track.While at Caddo Mills she was a 2nd in state power-lifter for 2 years, a play-off softball team for 4 years, and a state triple jumper. After high school she went and played softball at Cisco Jr. College.

Coaching History: Coach Sharkey's coaching career began at Bonham High School in 2005. For two years she was the freshman volleyball coach, JV and Varsity Assistant basketball coach, and Head softball coach. The volleyball team was regional-finalists and state runner-up,while the softball team made area! After leaving Bonham she went to Princeton High School in 2007 where she was an assistant basketball coach and varsity assistant softball coach. The basketball team was area champions. This is Coach Sharkey's 6th year of coaching and 3rd year at Lovejoy where she will be the Varsity assistant basketball coach and Varsity assistant softball coach!

Personal: Coach Sharkey loves spending any extra time with her family! Her parents hardly missed a basketball game this season and her niece was the Lovejoy ball girl! Her parents, Dodi and B.K. Sharkey still reside in Caddo Mills along with her niece (Shanie) and nephew (Blayne). Coach Sharkey is getting married this March to Jason Strayhorn!

Education:  Received a B.S. in Biology and a Master’s of Teacher Education from Eastern Oregon University.  I am in my 3 year of teaching here at Lovejoy High School.  I teach AP Biology, Forensic Science, and Pre-AP Biology; in the past I have also taught Pre-AP Chemistry and Anatomy & Physiology

Coaching History: I am really excited to be entering my second year as part of the Lovejoy Softball program

Personal: Hello All! My husband Travis and I relocated to Texas just over 2 years ago.  We relocated from LaGrande Oregon.  My husband Travis is a Football/Track coach at Anna High School. 

 

Assistant Coach Mike Motsney

Education: Education: Coach Motsney attended Allen High School, but finished his senior year at Lexington Academy Preparatory School. A graduate of The University of North Texas with a B.A. in Radio/Television/Film with a minor in English, Coach Motsney continued his education at The University of Texas at Arlington completing his English degree and certification for teaching. Coach Motsney teaches English I and II at LHS.

Coaching History: After a short career in the broadcast industry, Coach Motsney began his teaching and coaching career at Carrollton Christian Academy where he coached boys basketball and was the head golf coach. His next stop was American Heritage Academy in Carrollton, where he also coached boys basketball and was the head golf coach. At his next stop, Coach Motsney was the head girls basketball coach at Liberty Christian High School in Dallas, with additional duties as head boys and girls golf coach. Previous to Lovejoy, Coach Motsney spent 6 years at Hebron High School in Carrollton where he was assistant varsity girls basketball coach as well as JV softball coach and assistant track coach. Coach Motsney has been at Lovejoy since the beginning of the secondary program and served as the head girls basketball coach the first two seasons and worked with the track team. After a two year hiatus, Coach Motsney is currently an assistant girls basketball coach as well as an assistant softball coach. Coach Motsney is in his 15th year of coaching. This is his 5th year at Lovejoy.

Personal: Coach Motsney enjoys reading, spending time with his family, Dallas Maverick/ Duke University basketball, coffee, and any quite time he can manage to carve out of a hectic life! Coach Motsney is married to Amber and has three amazing daughters. (Victoria, Lauren, and Grace)
